Spencer Wheeler, M.D. - 2018
It’s an impossible task to summarize the accomplishments and impact of a man like Dr. Spencer Wheeler who has been at the forefront of so many important moments and events in Savannh sports. Dr. Wheeler, an orthopedic surgeon, has been involved in local, state, national and international sports medicine throughout his career, including the 1996 Olympic Games and several world championship sporting events. He was the team physician for Armstrong Atlantic State University for 18 years and Savannah College of Art and Design for 16 years. He has treated every level of athlete from Olympic champions to weekend warriors.” Not only has he given of his talents, he has also given of his time as a member of leadership organization such as the board of directors for Team Savannah Weightlifting, the Savannah Olympic Sports Council Executive Committee and the Savannah Sports Council. He was named Best Orthopaedist by Savannah Magazine in 2012 and 2014, Best Orthopaedist by Connect Savannah in 2015 and was inducted into the Armstrong Atlantic State University Athletic Hall of Fame. Dr. Wheeler is a community leader who has been and continues to be at the center of sports in Savannah.
