Wynne, Jack H. - 1993

Jack Wynne made an impact on athletics in Savannah for thirty years. He coached all sports at nine schools across a sixteen year span and moved into administration for the following fourteen years. Wynne, a native of Pulaski County, started coaching at Richard Arnold Junior High in 1949.
With a widely varied career, Wynne served stints at Commercial High School (1953-54), Chatham Junior High (1954-55), Washington Avenue Junior High (1955-56), Wilder Junior High (1958-60), Jenkins High (1961-63), Jewish Educational Alliance (Athletic Director 1963-66), and Arnold Junior High (1966-67).
Wynne’s career took a dramatic turn as he left the sidelines and coaching arena to spread his impact into the administrative end of athletics. In 1967, Wynne became the Director of Instruction for Pupil Placement for the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. The following year, he took the position as the athletic director for the Savannah-Chatham Public Schools. Although he retired in 1980, Wynne remained active in coaching youth league football and baseball.
