Wright, Sylvester A. “Cy” - 1992

A native of Corbin, Kentucky, Wright graduated from Furman University on a basketball scholarship. It was here that he played with All-Americans Frank Selvy, Darrell Floyd, and Neil Gordon.
In 1956, Wright accepted a teacher’s position at Savannah High School, where he was appointed head basketball coach and assistant football coach. In his seven years as basketball coach, his teams won the region championship twice; and he was named Savannah Coach of the Year in 1961 and 1963.
Cy Wright then took the position as executive director of the Jenkins Boys Club, a role he held for twenty-nine years. Under his leadership, the club grew from less than one hundred members to a record peak of nine hundred.
In addition to his duties at the Jenkins Boys Club, Wright has served as president of the Exchange Club (1973) and general manager of the Coastal Empire Fair Association, which distributes funds for youth activities.
