Stastny, Anthony - 2004
For the past thirty years, Tony Stastny has both served and shepherded the Savannah sports community, first as an award-winning writer and later as the Executive Sports Editor of the Savannah Morning News. As a columnist, Stastny has brought a keen and insightful perspective to every event he has covered. This is one of the reasons Savannahians look forward to his columns. But it is as sports editor that his work has most benefited readers and fans of the city. Tony has fought to maintain the depth and variety of coverage expected in a town’s own daily newspaper. He has been especially protective of local sports and athletes, demanding the games played here continue to get the attention they deserve. As a result of Tony’s efforts, Savannah’s athletes have enjoyed exposure their contemporaries in similarly sized cities do not receive. Stastny is an outstanding writer and editor. He is a fair man and brings that quality to his work. We hope he continues to bring us the written word in the same style we are used to reading under his byline.
