Simmons, Walter B. - 1976
Simmons, an educator, has devoted his energies to the advancement and enrichment of the Frank Callen Boys Club. While in the tenth grade of high school, Simmons became a volunteer worker and coach at the club and remained in these capacities until he entered the Navy in 1944.
Upon returning from military service, he resumed his role as a volunteer and organized the sports program in 1951. Simmons’ teams were composed of boys not on school teams – either because they did not make the cut or were required to work, rendering them unable to compete on school sports schedules.
Simmons was the club director from 1960-61 following the retirement of Mr. Callen. He remains a lifetime member of the club’s board of directors.
