Doyle Kelley - 2011

Doyle D. Kelley is synonymous with leadership at Savannah Christian Preparatory School. He dedicated 41 years of his life to the school and spent 38 years coaching, teaching and guiding generations of Red Raiders before retiring at the end of the 2011 school year. He coached Savannah Christian to football state championships in 1982 and 1984, basketball state championships in 1979 and 1985, boys’ golf state championships in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2008 and girls’ golf state championship in 2003. As a basketball coach, Coach Kelley was one of Georgia’s most successful coaches with 427 victories, and he guided the Savannah Christian boys’ golf team to a level of success that was unprecedented in Georgia history by capturing five consecutive state championships in multiple classifications. But the numbers and victories are only a part of Coach Kelley’s legacy at Savannah Christian. In addition to his coaching career, he spent 14 years as Savannah Christian’s principal. As a trusted mentor for the students and a reliable resource for the faculty and administration, Coach Kelley was a fixture and an icon both on the sidelines and in the hallways serving as a constant reminder of what it meant to be a Red Raider.
