Deloach, John Pearson - 1983

For more than forty years, Deloach has been aiding young athletes in the Savannah area. At age eighteen, he guided the Jefferson Athletic Club’s midget baseball team to the City’s 15-and-under league title. After coaching five more years in the youth leagues, Deloach ran the baseball program at American Legion Post 135. He held that position for ten years, producing four state titles in that time.
Deloach was instrumental in forming Savannah’s first Pony League and was field manager of Post 135 in 1955 when the team won the league championship. Five years later, he was field manager of Post 135 again. This time he directed the team to the state championship. From 1962 -1980, DeLoach was a member of the Victor B. Jenkins Memorial Boys Club, which operated Jenkins Boys Club.
During his years of coaching, Deloach also officiated baseball, basketball, softball, and boxing at high school, college, and local levels. He also served as a paid scout for the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League for ten years.
