Beckmann, Leo G. - 1971
A long-time golf club professional, Beckmann’s credentials are impressive. He served as the head pro at Peachtree Golf Club in Atlanta and at Savannah’s Mary Calder course. Beckmann was the announcer on the ninth green at the prestigious Masters Tournament in Augusta for many years and has recently been stationed on the 18th green. A member of the rules committee at the Masters, he has also officiated playoffs.
Beckmann has also served as the official announcer for the Jacksonville Open, Atlanta Classic, Heritage Classic, and the Dow-Jones Tournament in New Jersey. He is a past president of the Southeastern Section of the Professional Golfers Association and four-time member of the United States Ryder Cup team committee. The Beckmann family has long been associated with gold in Savannah; the sons of their sire are familiarly called “the golfing Beckmann brothers.”
