Schmidt, Peter - Football, 1986

Peter Schmidt was a three-year letterman in football, basketball, and track at Savannah Country Day School. He won the prestigious Ashley Dearing Award as Savannah’s most versatile Prep athlete and was twice named to All-City basketball and football teams by the News-Press. In track competition, Schmidt took the title in the State Championship in the 440-yard dash event. Continuing his sports career at the collegiate level, Schmidt became a three-sport athlete at the University of Virginia, competing on the school’s football, track and rugby teams. He also won the Eastern Inter-Collegiate Boxing Championship as a light heavyweight. Schmidt was a three-year letterman on the Virginia football team at the defensive back position. He was named to the Cavalier All-Star team for the 25-year period 1950-1975. Schmidt briefly played on the New England professional team before entering into a career in the business field.
