Rush, Ronnie - Basketball, 1991
Rush was an outstanding basketball player at the high school and college levels. He came to prominence at Commercial High School during his junior and senior years, when the school posted records of 21-1 and 23-1. Rush was named to the first News-Press Christmas Tournament team and was appointed an All-City and All-Region athlete. His senior year, he was City MVP as well. But Rush wasn’t confined to the basketball court – he was also the place kicker on the school’s football team and also played in the offensive end and linebacker positions. In 1955, Rush attended Brewton Parker Junior College, where he became the school’s first All-American selection. He also won All-Region, All-State, and MVP honors. He averaged twenty points per game for Brewton Parker, posting a 29-5 record. The next year, Rush transferred to Georgia Southern, where he played three years and finished out his career.
