Johnson, Glenn E. - Football, 1976
Johnson was a running back and cross country athlete at Savannah High School from 1928-30. He was named an All-State performer at halfback from 1929-30 and was a second team All-State basketball guard in 1930. He was selected the most valuable player in the traditional Thanksgiving Day game between Benedictine and Savannah High in 1928. In 1931, he attended Florida Military Academy, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track.
Johnson was a star halfback at the University of Georgia from 1934-36. He also ran the 100- and 200- yard dashes in track. In football, Johnson was named honorable mention All-SEC three times and honorable mention All-American in 1936. He was named to the Rice University (1936) and Tulane University (1935) All-Opponent teams.
