Joe Herpin - 2008
Joe Herpin was a 1951 graduate of Benedictine. He excelled at both football and baseball. During his football careeer at BC, Joe was named first team All-State, first team All-region, High School All-American, High School "Player of the Year," Georgia "Player of the Week" by the Atlanta Touchdown Club, and the Savannah Touchdowh Club's "Back of the Year." In baseball Joe excelled as well. In his senior season at BC he finished with a batting average of .481. Upon finishing high school, Joe was pursued by several major league baseball teams, namely the Dodgers, Yankees and Phillies. Joe decided to sign with the then National League champion Philadelhia Phillies. Joe played four seasons with a Philadelphia minor league affiliate and had to retire due to an injury. Joe's career batting average in the minor leagues was .287 .
