Jackson, Joseph Earl - Basketball, 1984

Jackson was a multi-sport standout, excelling in basketball, baseball, golf, and tennis. In basketball, he led Savannah High School to its first GIAA State Championship in 1930. In the championship game, Savannah defeated Columbus 77-41. Jackson led that same team to the quarterfinals of the National High School basketball tournament in Chicago. He went on to lead the Blue Jackets to two more state titles in 1931-32. In football, Jackson was an outstanding blocker and the best defensive back on the team. He also made his mark in baseball, carrying the highest batting average on the team. Jackson later played semi-professional baseball after graduation.
