Harvey, Gene “Gator” - Baseball, 1995

A superb infielder, Harvey started his professional career in 1950 in the Georgia State Class D League. After serving in the military for two years, Harvey returned in 1952 with Narchez, Mississippi of the Class C Cotton States League. He was an all-star second baseman that year and moved up to class B with St. Petersburg of the International League the following season. In 1954, Harvey started the year in the infield for West Palm Bach in the International League, but an injury soon ended his career. He remained with the team as manager the final months of the season. At age 24, he was the youngest manager in the country for professional league play.
