Green, James - Basketball, 2002

A Sol C. Johnson High School graduate, Green was an outstanding basketball player who had success at the high school, college, and professional level at Pain College in Augusta. He was awarded “Most Valuable Player” in basketball four consecutive years (1969-72). In 1972, Green was named one of the Top Five Scorers in the Nation for Small Colleges and the NAIA District 25 listed him among the top scorers and rebounders. That same year, Green was drafted and signed by the Atlanta Hawks, becoming the only player in Paine College history to be drafted into the NBA. He was inducted into the institution’s Hall of Fame in 1992.
