Golden, Jim - Football, 1979
Golden was a Beach High School football star under legendary coach Joe Green before achieving greatness at Kentucky State University in football and track. In 1965 at KSU, he was the All-Midwestern broad jump champion, second in All-Midwestern discus, and the squad’s captain. Golden holds the KSU broad jump record at 24 feet, 10.5 inches. In football, he was one of the state’s leading ground gainers at his fullback position, averaging 6.5 yards per carry his senior year. A versatile player, he doubled as a tight end and a defensive end and is an inductee of Kentucky State’s Hall of Fame.
