George Everett Crafts, III - 2013

Everett Crafts was an accomplished and multitalented athlete who excelled in every sport he played during the 1950s in Savannah. But his talents were most evident on the football field where he was a three-year letterman for Savannah High School as a center and linebacker. He was recognized throughout the city for his consistent excellence and was a runner up for the Dearing Award given annually the city’s best athlete in 1957 and 1958. He was named a member of the Savannah News Press All City Football Team in 1957. He accepted a football scholarship to play for the University of South Carolina and became a dependable presence for the Gamecocks on both sides of the ball, playing offense and defense and earning letters each year from 1960-62. Unfailingly characterized as a consistently excellent athlete, Everett also stood out through his unwavering sportsmanship and exemplary attitude on any field of play. He will be remembered as one of the most versatile athletes and noble characters in Savannah’s sports history.
