Dinerman, Joseph - Boxing, 1976

A star boxer at Savannah High School from 1935-37, was selected to the All-State boxing team. His senior year, he was captain of the team and won the high school championship in his division. In all of his career- high school and otherwise – Dinerman won 97 of 100 fights.
In Savannah, Dinerman fought for the Jewish Educational Alliance and the Union Bag boxing teams; and won the city championship in 1938. A year later, he won the Mid-Atlantic championship at Norfolk, Virginia; and in 1940, he took the Southern Golden Gloves title in Atlanta, gaining three of four victories by knockout. Dinerman went to New York City’s Madison Square Garden for the Golden Gloves Finals and lost by decision. In 1942, while in the Army, Dinerman won the post championship at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
