Bragg, Jr., Kendrick “Sonny” - Football, 1973
Bragg was an all-around athlete who excelled in football, basketball, swimming, and diving. During the years 1935-37, he was backfield star on Savannah High School’s football team, a forward on the basketball squad, and an exceptional swimmer and diver on the Blue Jacket swim team. Bragg captained the SHS football team his junior year, was co-captain his senior year, and was an All-Conference athlete in 1936 and 1937. In 1937, he achieved All-State status.
After his prep career, Bragg went on to Duke University, where he was a member of the 1938-39 Blue Devil backfield and played in the 1939 Rose Bowl. He then transferred to the University of Miami in the year 1940-41 and excelled in swimming and diving. Bragg later became a professional in swimming and diving with Billy Rose’s Aquacade as a member of the Buster Crabbe Aquatic Troupe.
