Eugene “Chief” Bonaud “Old Timer” - 1973

Bonaud was inducted into the Greater Savannah Athletic Hall of Fame with the first “Old Timer” citation. He was an outstanding athlete in the early 1900s, specializing in feats of endurance. Among these was a swim from the Seaboard Bridge to the Tybee Pavilion. He also swam from Wassaw Island to Isle of Hope, a distance of twenty miles, and was in the water for nearly seven hours. He was a distance runner, credited with outrunning a horse from Bulla and Victory to Isle of Hope.
