Greene, Joseph Mack - 1973

For more than three decades, Greene coached the athletic teams of Beach High School with tremendous success. His teams won numerous Georgia State College Invitational championships, recognized as the peak of achievement among black schools in the pre-desegregation days. Greeneā€™s basketball teams also competed three times in the Negro National Championship Tournaments and placed second twice.
His 1953 football team won the GIAA Championship. His track teams won many honors in Tuskegee relays and his 440-relay team set a record that stood ten years. He served as director of Westside Recreation Center for many years and developed a complete summer program that included shuffleboard, basketball and swimming for boys and girls. Some of his athletes have become doctors, lawyers, and educators.
