David Floyd - 2010
David Floyd excelled in baseball for Savannah High School in the late 1920’s. David’s success positioned him for a professional baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox in 1930. David made it up to the Red Sox AAA team in 1933. After his stint in the Red Sox organization, David played semi-pro baseball in the Georgia Carolina League from 1934-1940. David also met success after his professional baseball career. In 1947, David was hired by the City of Savannah’s Recreation Department where he was instrumental in the development of Daffin Park’s baseball diamonds and the rejuvenation of baseball in Savannah. David also served as a territorial scout for Major League Baseball from 1952-1966. He scouted for the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Philly’s, Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburg Pirates.
