Attwood, Richard “Bubba” - 2005

“Bubba” Attwood had a long and successful tenure as a high school football coach in Savannah, Georgia. Coming to Savannah in 1955, Attwood began his career at Richard Arnold Junior High. He then took a step up to the high school level, coaching at both Commercial High and Savannah High before moving on to Herschel V. Jenkins High School in 1966. While at Jenkins, Attwood achieved his greatest success at the public school level, accumulating a 47-13-2 record with two region championships. Accepting another challenge, he later started the football program at Savannah Christian School. In a ten year period, his teams won five Southeastern Athletic Independent School State Championships, giving instant credibility to Savannah Christian’s private school athletics program. Coach Attwood was ahead of his time. He was an admirable coach, a fine gentleman and a wonderful mentor to his players.
