Pearson, Ben “Red” - Football, 1968

Pearson won fame as a blocking back at Clemson University under coach Jess Neely after a successful prep career at Savannah High School. During his junior year at Clemson, he was named honorable mention All-State. In 1937, he led the team in scoring and booted a field goal to give the Tigers a win (10-9) over Florida. Pearson was a member of the 1938 quartet that is still regarded as the greatest backfield in Clemson history. He was appointed as a member of the “All-Time 33,” a group composed of the best three teams ever fielded at Clemson.
