Newton, Jr., Ralph - Firearms, 1985

Ralph Newton, Jr. was a world-class shooter, enjoying a short but amazing career as a skeet shooter. He started early, learning the sport at age eight from his father. At age twelve, Newton began competing and won the Georgia Sub-Junior Championship his first year. He went on to win two world championships (1959, 1962) and three national championships (1960, 1961, 1963). Newton and his father finished second in the Father-Son World Championships in 1959 and 1962; and he was the overall All-State champion in 1963 and 1965. After retiring from competitive sporting events at age 21, Newton graduated from Georgia Southern College in 1967. He went on to earn a degree in Commercial Art from Pratt Institute in 1973. He went on to become the art director for one of the nation’s top advertising firms.
