Moore, Charles H. “Charlie” - Baseball, 1991

In four years at Benedictine Military School, Moore earned eleven varsity letters – four in football, four in baseball, and three in basketball. Moore pitched the American Legion Post 135 team to two State American Legion baseball championships and was awarded the News-Press All-City football honors for three consecutive years (1952-54). In 1953, he was the News-Press Back of the Year and was an All-State pick his senior season. During his senior year, Moore was awarded the Ashley Dearing Award and the Sears Trophy. Following his prep career, he signed a football scholarship with Furman University. At Furman, he lettered three years in baseball – where he was an All-Southern Conference selection in 1956 – and two years in football. In 1957, Moore gave up football and signed a baseball scholarship contract with Furman. After his college career, Moore became head baseball coach and assistant football coach at Benedictine for four years (1958-62). He was Region 2-AA Coach of the Year in baseball in 1960, the same year his team won the region title.
