Douglas, John “Bubber” - Baseball, 2005

During his high school years, Douglas attended Benedictine Military School and played baseball and basketball. He was awarded All-Region from 1948-50, All-State from 1948-49, and was selected to the South Georgia All-Star team in 1950. Continuing his athletic career, Douglas played baseball at the University of Georgia and was the starting first baseman for four years (1952-55). As a freshman, he was the team’s leading hitter with a batting average of .361 and was also the team leader in RBIs. For these achievements, he was selected their MVP. UGA went on to win the SEC championship in 1953-1954 and the Eastern Division of the SEC in 1955. During his final year, in 1955, he won All-SEC honors.
