Ellis, Jr., Frank - Football, 1994

Ellis was a multi-sport standout for Johnson High School’s Atom Smashers. A starting guard on the basketball team, Ellis also passed for 1,400 yards as football quarterback in his 1961 senior season. After his prep career, Ellis considered offers from at least two Big Ten schools, but neither wanted him as a quarterback. Instead, he opted to enroll at Savannah State. His career started fast – he returned a punt for 80 yards and a touchdown in his first game. Ellis was a three-year starting quarterback at Savannah State as well as a starter on the college’s basketball team. After serving in the U.S. Army, Ellis returned to Savannah to coach football at SSC.
