Woods, Charlie - Football, 1968

Woods, a teammate of fellow GSAHF honoree Ben “Red” Pearson at Savannah High School and Clemson University, is rated as the first string center on Clemson’s all-time football team. He is a charter honoree in Clemson’s Athletic Hall of Fame and captained the 1938 Clemson team. Woods led the Tigers to a 7-1-1 season and was named to the All-State first team in 1937 and 1938. He was also voted to the All-South team in 1937. In 1966, Woods was nominated for Sports Illustrated Magazine’s Silver Anniversary Award, an honor accorded to a selected group of former athletes twenty-five years after they have completed their careers.
